Story 28 – 23.02.2020

“In 2016 I took the Harmony test at [a private hospital] and was informed that the daughter I was carrying tested positive for Downs Syndrome.

The doctor who took the test and carried out our ultrasounds refused to meet us to discuss the results. He would not allow us into his office and refused to come out and meet us. I had to search on the NHS website to read about what the diagnosis even meant.

The hospital is happy to take the money to perform the test, but if the news is bad is unwilling to discuss the result with patients.

I decided to have a termination.

We met with the hospital owner to lodge a complaint. His only response was that people only want perfect babies and to tell us how his own daughter with Down Syndrome is able to play the piano.”
