“When I was 21, I suddenly discovered I was pregnant from an ex-boyfriend who was living in a different country. I made my decision immediately and just told everyone I was going travelling. I went to a trusted friend in Pescara who helped me arrange to go to a modern hospital and have the abortion.

I never told anyone because I knew there would have been no support or understanding. I was extremely lucky because I had a good job and could afford it. Just the operation cost me €2000, which at that time was a lot.

My most vivid memory is of my friend’s parents in Italy telling me that they cannot comprehend how it is illegal in Malta!

Now I am happily married with 2 gorgeous children. I honestly never suffered any trauma or regret. But I would love to support others if I can.

Thanks for the initiative!”
